SATURDAY, JULY 14, 2018
10AM - 4:00PM
SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA
Join our half day retreat to center yourself, ignite your passion and make art that connects with your soul. “Live Vivid” weaves color, meditation and food to empower and inspire.
Color enriches life. It evokes and molds emotions. As such, color is a powerful tool. Let’s explore this fascinating world through marbling and color dyes. The unique combination of mindful making and meditation touches on all aspects of the human experience. Come learn how stimulation of the senses is a gateway to creativity.
Local artists Mimi Haddon and Agnes Pierscieniak are co-hosting a special IfOnly day about meditation, color, and creativity. Mimi’s house in Santa Monica is a vibrant retreat ready to inspire.
CREATIVE REFLECTION: Morning Meditation
CREATIVE EXPRESSION: Color your Aura with Acid Dyes
CREATIVE NOURISHMENT: Leisurely lunch
CREATIVE EXPLORATION: Color Play with Marbling
CREATIVE CONNECTION: Community Circle + Appreciation
Creative Expression: Color your Aura (Dye 2 Colorful Scarves with Acid Dyes)
Dyeing slows your conscious thinking and awakens your subconscious imagination. Fiber Reactive Dyes will paint a beautiful scarf to wear during meditation. We will experiment with the beauty of color + texture. The goal is to make a symbolic object and keepsake to remember the day. We will work with dyes that connect with your Aura and showcase your personality through color.
Creative Exploration: Color Play (Marble Products with Turkish Paints)
Water + color create a mesmerizing art. It has been said that marbling is meditative as it’s calming to watch paint float on water, to create a beautiful pattern with the simplest of strokes. The goal is to learn to be in the moment, to let go of thinking and to trust your hands to be creative. We will “play” with water and paint to create patterns and make products.
Mimi Haddon is a fiber artist and photographer who uses vibrant color as her main medium. She can often be seen around town creating temporary colorful soft sculptures that respond to the architecture and environments of Los Angeles. She is a certified Chopra Center meditation teacher and recently received her MFA in Fiber Art from CSULB. Mimi teaches at FIDM and The Craft and Folk Art Museum.
