Japanese Marbling is a practice of calming our minds as we make beautiful cards and coasters. Suminagashi, Japanese for “floating ink,” is a traditional art form that reveals the mesmerizing, ever-changing nature of water. It is almost hypnotic to watch and soothes the entire body and mind. We will be creating a floating piece of art on the surface of the water and capturing the swirling, ever-morphing moments as prints on paper and coasters. It’s a perfect experience to become more present and destress.

Suminagashi is a thousand year old Japanese technique of ink marbling with its roots in Shintoism, originally intended as a process for connecting human creativity to the flowing nature of water. Using various techniques the inks are applied to the surface of the water. This begins a process of flow where the shapes of the ink continue to evolve in soft, elegant, infinitely decorative forms.

The kits come with everything you need to make your own art. We also provide set up materials including table covers and gloves. Perfect as a gift and to share with friends and family. There are enough materials for 2+ people to make art together.

Each of our art kits comes with complimentary access to a full length (20-40 min) narrated class video for that art form. These videos give you step by step directions and detailed advice through the entire process. You can make the art at you own pace, and access anytime for unlimited viewings.
