CAPITAL ONE
SUMMER TIE DYE PARTY
JULY 29, 2025

Full of bold energy, Tie Dye is a Party. It brings smiles. It brings surprises. It can never be wrong. We celebrate color and smile.

Looking to add a little color to your life? Tie-dye is an expressive art form that makes everyone feel good. It’s a fun way to experiment, create something wearable, and bring people together. The brighter and bolder, the better.

This is the perfect summer activity to celebrate creativity and community. Invite everyone to join in the fun! We’ll explore 3-4 tying techniques, play with vibrant colors, and learn how to get the best results from your dye. It’s amazing what we can create with rubber bands, good dyes, and great energy.

We’ll cover:
How to choose colors that pop

INSTRUCTIONS

Tie Dye is such a fun process to play with color and make new things. In this workshop, we will cover: how to prep, tie, dye, and wash dyed items. As far as the patterns, we’ll walk you through the most well-known patterns: the swirl and the bullseye. We will also showcase Shibori inspired patterns and opportunities for custom creations.

SUPPLIES IN KIT:
One-Step Tie Dye with Squirt bottles
The “one-step” in these kit names refers to the missing step of needing to soak garments in a mixture of water and soda ash before dyeing, making these kits so easy to use. Just add water to the dry dye powder in neat squeeze bottles.
Tray
T-shirt
Tote Bag
Bandana
Rubber bands
Rubber gloves
Plastic table cover

SET UP
You will need to set up a work area that is flat. We will be tyeing and folding our wet bundles on a table and then putting them into the trays to dye. You will need paper towels and a bag for trash nearby.

IMPORTANT
Dye maintains its potency for only 48-72 hours. I recommend activating only the colors and amounts you plan on using in a given session to avoid wasting dye.

WHAT TO DYE
Our kits come with tote bags, t-shirts and bandanas. You can also grab something from your closet to upcycle. There is enough dye for several items. That is TOTALLY up to you! The one important requirement for anything you’re dyeing is that it’s a natural fiber: 100% cotton, silk, rayon, and wool are all great options. Acrylic / polyester fabrics won’t work.

TIE DYE PREP
Prep is only step: dunk item(s) in water and ring out excess water. We will do this together during the workshop.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR WASHING AFTER WORKSHOP
Tie-Dye Washout Instructions

  •  Leave your dyed items in the sealed plastic bags for 12 to 24 hours to let the color set.

     When ready to rinse:

  •  Keep the item closed with rubber bands and rinse under running water (sink or tub) until the water starts to run more clear.

  •  Once most of the excess dye is rinsed out:

  •  Remove the rubber bands, open the item, and rinse it again thoroughly.

     After rinsing:

  •  Wring out the excess water and place the item in the washing machine.

  •  Wash on a cold, gentle cycle with NO detergent for the first rinse.

  •  If items are similar in color, you can wash them together.

  •  After this first wash, you can launder them with your regular clothes in future washes.
