THE ART
Using Geli plates and found flora, we will create unique pieces of art with nature's imprints. The workshop creates monoprints using found leaves. It's a great self care tool to hold nature in our hands and make art with it. We will learn how to create patterns with real leaves, play with color mixing, and practice pulling prints. This workshop is perfect to appreciate a time of change and transition, permanence and impermanence. Making art with leaves is a healing process.
TO PREP
I created two videos for our upcoming workshop. The first is an overview and discussion about the art workshop and nature walk. Hopefully it can give some insights and help you prepare. The second shows more details about the set up for our session.
We will be using real plants to make the art. I encourage you to go on a meditative walk the day before or the morning of. (If you go day before, make sure to put plants in water. Too dry won’t work.) You should find 6-10 leaves/plants that are flat and not too shiny. Eucalyptus are my favorites, and ferns/oak leaves are also good to work with. Leaves tend to work better than flowers as they are flat as well as more hardy. You will be rolling a roller over the plant, so they need to be somewhat sturdy. All art materials will be mailed to you but you can also bring scissors to make stencils/paper cut outs in addition to the leaves. The botanical printing kit includes everything you need to learn the technique of botanical printing and make some cards.
Materials include:
5"x7" cards with envelopes, gelli plate, rollers, squeegee, paint, palettes, table cover
“We have designed this creative experience to connect with ourselves and our team through nature. Making art with nature brings greater perception, presence and peace into our lives. Nature printing is a mindful practice that helps us live in the present and appreciate the beauty found all around us.”
